Defensive Development

CANTON — Two years ago, Jeff Caister's college hockey career was rapidly running out of time. He was at Wayne State when the college announced the men's hockey program was ending.

"They took it away," he said. "It was the most expensive and with the economy these days, they weren't really a big sell on campus, so they thought we were expendable, I guess."

That decision put Caister in a peculiar — but not unfamiliar — spot in his sophomore season.
