The most surprising score of last week’s line of results came from St. Lawrence’s Appleton Arena, where the hometown Saints blasted Cornell 8-1. But anyone who’s been watching St. Lawrence closely probably wasn’t as surprised as the rest of the nation.

The Saints have quietly gone on a pretty impressive run. They’re 6-1-1 in their last eight games including the win against Cornell and a tie at Yale. The record is 8-2-1 in their last 11 games.

There’s a lot to like about this St. Lawrence team entering the final four weekends of the regular season. For starters, there’s experience. Of the 18 skaters in the lineup against Cornell, plus starting goalie Alex Petizian, 14 were either seniors (7) or juniors (7) and 11 of those have played more than 90 games in their college careers. Most important among that group are four senior stalwart defensemen - Shawn Fensel, Matt Generous, Zach Miskovic and Jared Ross - who have played a combined 529 games, and not a single one has been a healthy scratch even once in their entire collegiate careers.
