McKenna Joins Lightning

TAMPA BAY, FL – The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have signed former St. Lawrence goaltender Mike McKenna, Lightning Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Lawton announced today.

McKenna, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound goaltender from St. Louis, Missouri, has appeared in 24 games for the Admirals this season, posting a 11-10-1 record with one shutout, a 2.97 goals-against average and .904 save percentage. He leads Norfolk in wins and goals-against average.

In 79 career AHL games between Norfolk, Milwaukee, Omaha and Portland, McKenna has a 39-26-3 record with four shutouts, a 2.97 GAA and .902 SV%. McKenna has also appeared in 63 career ECHL games – all with the Las Vegas Wranglers – and has a 46-6-8 record with a 2.18 GAA and .926 SV%. McKenna was twice selected to represent the Wranglers at the ECHL All-Star Game and was named to the 2005-06 and 2006-07 All-ECHL Second Team.

Prior to turning professional, McKenna spent four seasons at St. Lawrence University, going 32-44-8 with a 2.85 GAA. He is St. Lawrence’s career leader in games played (95), minutes (5,236) and ties.

McKenna was drafted in the sixth round (172nd overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators.
