Penalties Slow Saints

Lately, the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team has been
punished like little kids.
Two minutes at a time, the Saints are being sent for a timeout in
the penalty box. It's an issue that haunted the team a year ago and
cost them last weekend. SLU suffered a pair of one-goal defeats at
Dartmouth and Harvard, and foolish penalties were at the root of
the problem.
"I think first of all, it's a matter of systems," St. Lawrence
head coach Joe Marsh said. "You try to get guys tuned in to the
defensive goal. You have to read the position and stay inside your
check. The other thing is in the battles. You've got to work hard,
but it's a fundamental issue. You have to make your skating do the
work, keep the stick down low and win battles."
