Cyclones Add Macdonald
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, ECHL affiliate of
the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators, announced
today they have agreed to terms with third-year defenseman Matt
Macdonald, who played at St. Lawrence.
Macdonald spent last season patrolling the blueline for the
Cyclones, appearing in 71 games and tallying a goal and 22 assists
for 23 points. Matt led the club in penalty minutes (131) and was
involved in four fights during the year. His lone goal of the
season was a dramatic one, breaking a 1-1 tie with 4:13 remaining
in a 2-1 win over Wheeling on Nov. 18. He also had a pair of
assists in a contest at Reading on Feb. 14. This summer he was at
rookie camp with the NHL's Chicago Black Hawks.
Macdonald earned three varsity letters at St Lawrence. His rookie
season as a pro was spent with Lubbock (CHL), where he played 64
games. Matt registered six goals and 16 assists for 22 points and
103 penalty minutes.
"Matt Macdonald improved greatly from the start of last season
through the end," Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber said. "He played
a number of different roles for us and was able to contribute in
each of them. We are looking forward to having him here this
season."
