Watson Tabbed as CHL Player of Week

Broomfield, Colo. - Rocky Mountain Rage centerman Simon Watson, who played at St. Lawrence, has been named the Oakley Central Hockey League Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 5 - 11.  He is the second Rocky Mountain player to receive a league honor this season.  Linemate Scott Wray previously garnered October Player of the Month accolades.

Despite earning a starting position on the CHL's Southern Conference All-Star Team as a rookie with the Lubbock Cotton Kings last season, Watson never recorded a hat trick.  The second-year pro broke through and registered his first career hat trick this past Friday during the Rage's 7-4 victory against the Texas Brahmas.  He then promptly notched his second career hat trick the next night during the team's 7-2 win over the Amarillo Gorillas.

In addition to his six goals over the weekend, Watson also chipped in with three assists, vaulting him into a tie for 11th in the league in scoring with 15 points (8g-7a).  He and Wray, who leads the entire CHL with 24 points (8g-16a), both have a team-best eight goals, one off the league lead.

Watson's effort on Saturday was a natural hat trick with all three tallies coming on the power play as the Rage remained unbeaten at Broomfield Event Center for a team-record sixth straight game (5-0-1) to begin the season. The back-to-back three-goal performances highlighted a perfect 2-0-0 weekend for Rocky Mountain , which currently stands atop the Northwest Division with a record of 7-1-1 and 15 points.
