Symington Named IHL Goaltender of Week
Kalamazoo, MI - The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the International Hockey League, announce defenseman Florian Iberer and former St. Lawrence goaltender Jeremy Symington have earned league awards for the period ending November 4.
In his first week with the K-Wings, Iberer made an immediate impact. The native of Graz, Austria recorded four points in three games to capture the IHL's Pepsi Defenseman of the Week.
After adding a goal and assist on the ledger in a 6-3 victory last Saturday against Port Huron, Iberer continued the week by lighting the lamp twice in the K-Wings contest yesterday at Wings Stadium versus the Fort Wayne Komets; Iberer's second tally of the game was the overtime game-winner in the 3-2 battle.
Not to be outdone, Symington earned the league's Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week. Symington came up with back to back huge performances for the K-Wings. On Saturday, the native of Petrolia, Ontario turned aside 42 shots, including three breakaways in the victory over Port Huron.
On Sunday, Symington saved a season high 43 shots versus the Komets in the overtime win. The perfect 2-0-0-0 record for the week by Symington raises his overall mark to 3-1-0-0.
With two straight victories under its belt, the Kalamazoo Wings will return to Wings Stadium for two games this weekend. On Friday, November 9th the K-Wings will host the Bloomington PrairieThunder at 7:30 p.m. on Word of Life Night. The K-Wings will conclude the week on Saturday (11/10) with a 7:30 p.m. tilt against the Port Huron Icehawks.
