CANTON - St. Lawrence University men's hockey coach Joe Marsh found a new way to relax before Saturday's game against rival Clarkson University.
Marsh, who coached his 60th game against the Golden Knights, picking up a 4-2 win, is teaching a class in life skills this semester at SLU, and he spent the day meeting with several freshmen students he advises, including one meeting just two hours before the opening faceoff.
"That took my mind off things and enabled me to get away from it," Marsh said.
SLU's win, before a crowd of 3,400 at Appleton Arena, snapped an 0-2-2 homestand for the Saints and improved Marsh's record against the Golden Knights to 23-36-1. His team has won nine of its last 11 home games against Clarkson.
"I feel about 160," Marsh joked, when told he'd just coached game No. 60 against Clarkson. "They're tremendous games, there are very few that haven't been. Each tradition feeds the other and I think we're very fortunate to have each other as close as we are.
"It's a special high (to win) and also a little bit of a special low. The losses have a bit more of an edge to them. The losses hurt more than the wins feel good."
