Helfrich Earns Accolades
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors announced that former Rensselaer standout Tyler Helfrich has been named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for the week of December 26 - January 1.
In four games, the Calgary, Alberta native recorded two goals and five assists for seven points. He is currently on a five game point streak with eight points (2g - 6a) during that span.
Helfrich's week began with three consecutive multiple point games and concluded with an assist in a 4-1 victory over Utah on New Year's Eve helping the Condors to a 2-2-0 week.
"Helfy has been a great addition for us and a forward who plays in all situations," said Condors Head Coach Matt O'Dette. "We're looking for continued success from him this season."
Since being acquired from Gwinnett in November, Helfrich has 10 points (2g - 8a) in 14 games played with Bakersfield.
The former Engineers forward began his professional career in Florida last season and played in four Kelly Cup playoff games for the Everblades.
He becomes to second Condor this season to earn an ECHL award after fellow RW Scott Freeman, a former Clarkson standout, was named the Rookie of the Month for October.
