Engineers Look Forward to Challenge
TROY -- The dilemma for RPI's hockey team this season is as plain as the tape on their sticks. The Engineers have to find some way to overcome the loss of their best offensive player and best defensive player from a 20-13-5 team that made it to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 16 years.
Gone are graduated two-time ECAC Hockey Player of the Year and All-American Chase Polacek and his 21 goals and 48 points, and on the other end standout goaltender Allen York bypassed his senior season to sign a professional contract.
"They're big losses, but we've got great freshmen coming in and the upperclassmen coming back are in great shape," said defenseman Mike Bergin, one of this year's captains along with fifth-year senior Joel Malchuk. "The expectations stay the same. We're looking to win the ECAC and go to the NCAAs."
