The Record
TROY — Bryce Merriam knows exactly where he was when
he heard Allen York, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s No. 1
goaltender, had decided to turn professional after his junior
season last spring.
“I was pretty excited for him,” Merriam said.
“It was a pretty great accomplishment for him (having the
NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets tell York he was ready for pro
hockey), even considering the outstanding year he had.”
The Blue Jackets had selected York in the second round of the 2007
NHL draft and he won two games for their American Hockey League
affiliate at Springfield after the RPI season ended last
March.
