GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The RPI hockey program loses eight seniors to graduation and possibly its goaltender to the pros, but coach Seth Appert is staying -- maybe for a long, long time.
As the Engineers were preparing for their NCAA Tournament run a week ago, Appert quietly signed a contract extension through 2018, a move the school's administration made knowing full well its coach would have been a hot commodity.
A 6-0 loss to North Dakota on Saturday notwithstanding, Appert has started the program back on a path to national relevancy, with no step more important than its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1995.
