Helfrich Headed for Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors announced today that the team has acquired former Rensselaer forward Tyler Helfrich from the Gwinnett Gladiators in exchange for future considerations.

“He’s an offensive player,” said Head Coach Matt O’Dette. “He’s a skill guy that can help our offense right now, since we need to generate more scoring. He’s got good vision, he’s a good passer and has a good shot. He can help on both the power play and the penalty kill, and will be an upgrade for our forwards.”

The Calgary, AB native played in 12 games this season with Gwinnett registering two goals and six assists for eight points.

Last season, the 5-10, 195 lb. forward played in two regular season and four playoff games with the Florida Everblades after completing a four-year collegiate career at RPI.

While at RPI, Helfrich led the Engineers in scoring as a freshman in 2007-08 with nine goals and 20 assists for 29 points. His senior season was his best, tallying 14 goals and 24 assists for 38 points. He was a former teammate of current Condors D Erik Burgdoerfer.
