Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Takes Look at Merth

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced that they have signed Wheeling Nailers defenseman Peter Merth, a former Rensselaer standout, to a professional try-out agreement. 

Now in his second year as a pro, Merth has posted two assists and 11 penalty minutes in 13 games with the Nailers. Merth recorded 12 points (1g-11a) and 90 PIM in 2010-11 during his rookie season in Wheeling.

Originally from New Westminster, British Columbia, Merth was a four-year letterman at Rensselaer. The 24-year old totaled four goals and 27 assists in 151 games with the Engineers.
