RPI Gives Back for the Holidays

TROY, N.Y. – As the holidays quickly approach, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men’s and women’s hockey teams look to give back to the community with a number of events taking place during their games over the next two weeks.  Both teams will be holding canned food drives, while the men’s team will have a Teddy Bear Toss on November 15 against Union – all at the Houston Field House.

Saturday night’s men’s contest against Brown, which begins at 7 p.m., marks the “Can the Bears” food drive.  Fans are urged to bring non-perishable items to the game for the benefit of Helping Hands Across America.  Those making donations of two items or more items will receive a coupon to Moe’s Southwest Grill at its Troy location on the RPI campus.

The food drive extends into the following weekend when the women’s team hosts the top-ranked team in the nation, and defending NCAA Champion, Wisconsin on November 18 and 19.  Fans are once again encouraged to assist in the collection of food items. And again, those who provide two-or-more canned goods will receive a coupon to Moe’s.

Game times for the women’s series against the Badgers are 7 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday.

In the meantime, the men’s hockey team will also be in action on Tuesday as it welcomes area and conference-rival Union to the Houston Field House at 7 p.m. In addition to it being Greek Night and the Annual Rensselaer Faculty-Staff Appreciation Night, the Engineers will hold a Teddy Bear Toss during the first intermission.

Fans are encouraged to bring a bear to toss, which will then be collected by RPI’s players. All the bears collected will be donated to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation in Albany.
