Farynuk Opts for Italy

Brad Farynuk, a former Rensselaer standout, has joined Ritten/Renon (Italy) for the 2011-12 season, the team announced June 2 on its Web site.

A native of Enderby, British Columbia, Farynuk spent the past two seasons with the Tohoku Free Blades of the Asia League Ice Hockey (ALIH). During the course of his two seasons with the Free Blades, Farynuk scored 23 goals and set up 56 goals for 79 points in 70 regular-season games. He added eight points, including three goals, in five postseason games in 2010-11.

Farynuk, an Engineers standout from 2002 through 2006, spent the 2008-09 campaign between South Carolina of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) and Quad City of the American Hockey League (AHL). A defenseman, Farynuk played in 67 games, 50 with South Carolina, and compiled 12 goals and 22 assists.

In four seasons with RPI, Farynuk competed in 146 games, compiling 79 points, including 18 goals. His most productive offensive campaign with RPI came during his sophomore season (2003-04) as he scored six goals and assisted on 17 tallies for 23 points in 39 games.
