Koudys Participating in NHL Combine
TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) sophomore-to-be Patrick Koudys is currently participating in the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Scouting Combine, which allows the top 102 draft-eligible players from North American and Europe to undergo physical testing and medical examinations for every NHL team. The four-day Combine, which is being held in Toronto, runs through Saturday.
“It has been a great experience and I am really honored to have been invited,” Koudys said from Toronto on Thursday night. “The interviews with the teams have been great and I am looking forward to the fitness testing coming up. Hopefully one of the teams really likes me and things will work out for the Draft.
“My year at RPI, training with my teammates and learning from our coaches, helped me a lot to prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It was great to have my coaches and teammates supporting me and wishing me good luck when I headed out.”
Koudys (pronounced cow-DICE), a native of Smithville, Ont., played 31 games for the Engineers as a freshman, scoring a goal with two assists. He was assessed seven penalties for 14 minutes. He tallied all three of his points and 10 penalty minutes in 19 ECAC Hockey contests.
Prior to attending RPI, he played for the Burlington Cougars in the Ontario Junior 'A' Hockey League. He played 50 games, scoring five goals with 28 assists for 33 points. He also had 42 penalty minutes. Koudys, who is 6-4, 190 pounds, was the OHA's Top Prospect, Burlington's Rookie of the Year and Top Defenseman.
The Scouting Combine allows all 30 NHL teams to interview as many prospects as they wish while reviewing medical reports by independent doctors of York University in Toronto. The players are also put through a series of endurance tests.
The NHL Entry Draft will take place on June 24-25 in St. Paul, Minnesota.
