TROY -- In the late stages of his team's game at Union College on Nov. 12, RPI defenseman John Kennedy blocked a shot off the stick of Jeremy Welsh with his team short-handed and trailing by a goal.
Welsh's blast shattered Kennedy's left index finger and broke a bone in the palm of his hand.
Seven seconds later, despite being in obvious pain, Kennedy threw his body in front of another Welsh shot and blocked it with his ankle before helping clear the puck.
