Switzerland Beckons Pothier
The leaders of the Geneva-Servette (Switzerland) Hockey Club announced Tuesday the signing of former Rensselaer standout Brian Pothier to a two-year contract.
A native of New Bedford, Massachusetts, Pothier split the 2009-10 between the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL). He competed in 41 games with Washington, totaling four goals and seven assists (11 points) and registering a plus-12 plus/minus rating.
On March 3, Carolina acquired Pothier, along with forward Oskar Osala and a second-round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft from Washington in exchange for defenseman Joe Corvo. In 20 games with Carolina, Pothier tallied one goal and three assists.
Pothier began his NHL career with Atlanta in 2000-01. He joined Ottawa in 2002-03, before becoming a member of Capitals in 2006-07. Overall, Pothier totaled 26 goals and 92 assists (118 points) in 362 career NHL games.
Pothier enjoyed a standout career at RPI from 1996-00. He played in 142 collegiate contests, scoring 17 times and setting up 57 goals.
