D'Amigo Turns Heads at Leafs Orientation Camp

NHL scouts don’t judge the success of their draft by how their first-round selections fare. It’s the late-round steals that they dine out on.
While it’s early yet, the Maple Leafs may have uncovered a gem in the sixth round of the 2009 draft, a 6-foot, 210-pound winger named Jerry D’Amigo.
He wasn’t very high on anyone’s radar — his skating was supposedly suspect — last year, but he has rocketed up the depth chart after his first season of college hockey at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. His season included a gold medal at the world juniors for Team USA.
