Hurricanes Secure Services of Pothier

RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has acquired former Rensselaer defenseman Brian Pothier, left wing Oskar Osala and a second-round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft from the Washington Capitals in exchange for defenseman Joe Corvo.

Pothier, 32, has skated in 41 games for the Capitals this season, totaling four goals and seven assists (11 points) and registering a plus-12 plus/minus rating. The New Bedford, MA, native is tied for fifth among Capitals in blocked shots (58), and is averaging 18:02 per game in ice time. He has scored four goals and earned six assists (10 points) and is plus-11 in his most recent 28 games played for Washington. Pothier played his college hockey at RPI, and has totaled 25 goals and 89 assists (114 points) in 342 career NHL games with Atlanta, Ottawa and Washington.
