D'Amigo, Pirri Named to All-Rookie Team

TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes Jerry D’Amigo and Brandon Pirri have been chosen to the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team, the league has announced. They are RPI’s third and fourth All-Rookie Team members in the last three seasons.

D’Amigo, a forward from Binghamton, N.Y., has played 32 games, tallying 10 goals and 22 assists for 32 points. He is third on the team in goals, assists and points. Three of his goals have come on the power play, one was shorthanded and three have been game-winners.

In 21 league games, the U.S. Under-18 National Development Team product scored seven goals with 17 assists for 24 points. He was second in freshman scoring (1.23 points per game), third in overall shorthanded points (1 goal, 1 assist) and sixth in overall assists per game (0.81). Nationally he is fourth in rookie points and fifth in points per game by a rookie (1.00).

D’Amigo missed four games while playing for the United States World Junior Championship Team. He led that team to a gold medal by scoring 12 points (6 goals, 6 assists) to rank second in the tournament and on the team. He was first on the U.S. in goals and third in assists. He was also a plus-7. D’Amigo was the team’s Player of the Game twice and had multiple-point efforts in each of the three games in the medal round.

Pirri, who has 10 goals and 31 assists for 41 points in 36 games, is second in the nation in points by a rookie (41), third in points per game by a rookie (1.14), fourth in overall assists (31) and ninth in overall assists per game (0.86). Four of his goals have come on the power play and two have been game-winning goals.

The Toronto, Ont., native had five goals and 22 assists for 27 points in 22 ECAC Hockey games. He finished first in league games in assists, assists per game (1.00), power play points (3 goals, 12 assists) and freshman scoring (1.23 points per game). Pirri, who played last season for the Georgetown Raiders, was seventh in overall points per game (1.23).

The Engineers (17-15-4 overall; 10-9-3 ECAC Hockey) return to action this weekend when they host Brown University (8-17-4; 6-12-4) in the first round of the ECAC Hockey Playoffs. The best-of-three series, which runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday (if necessary), will be held at the Houston Field House with all games facing-off at 7pm.
