Every Tuesday, FanHouse discusses the top NHL prospects found in college hockey.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is an engineering school in Troy, N.Y. While it's a school known for academic achievement, they also field athletic teams there.

The hockey program at RPI fell on hard times in the 1990s. A program that regularly posted winning seasons and won a national championship in 1985 hasn't made the NCAAs since 1995. Worse yet, they haven't had a winning season since 2004, and they've posted back-to-back 20-loss seasons for the first time ever.

Things are looking up, thanks to head coach Seth Appert and some highly-regarded young players. One of those youngsters is freshman Jerry D'Amigo (NHL rights: Toronto). He starred for Team USA on their gold-medal World Juniors team, and now he is beginning to come into his own in college hockey.
