D'Amigo Remains Candidate for U.S. National Junior Team

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Rensselaer forward Jerry D'Amigo remains among a list of 24 potential candidates for the 2010 U.S. National Junior Team, USA Hockey announced. The original preliminary roster of 30 players was reduced following a three-day pre-tournament camp in Grand Forks, N.D., that culminated in an exhibition game against the University of North Dakota December 19.

The final 22-man U.S. roster will be announced Wednesday following Team USA's exhibition game against the Czech Republic on Tuesday in Moose Jaw, Sask. The 2010 U.S. National Junior Team will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2009-Jan. 5, 2010, in Saskatoon and Regina, Sask.

"We took a good first step over the last three days, and I was extremely pleased with our effort last night," said Dean Blais, head coach of the 2010 U.S. National Junior Team. "Even though our roster will still change a bit, we can really begin preparing for the tournament over the next few days."

A native of Binghamton, N.Y., D’Amigo has five goals and nine assists for 14 points through 18 contests this season. The forward has a pair of power-play markers and three game-winning scores.

Last season, D’Amigo was second on the U.S. Under-18 Team in scoring, with 23 goals and 33 assists for 56 points in 53 games. He recorded a team-high 13 points (4 goals, 9 assists) during the World Championships in which the club took gold. He was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the sixth round (158th overall) in the 2009 NHL entry draft.

D’Amigo will be joining eight teammates from the gold-medal winning 2009 U.S. National Under-18 team at the camp. In Grand Forks, the squad will play an exhibition game against the University of North Dakota on December 19 and following camp, a reduced roster will take on the Czech Republic in Regina, Sask., on the 22nd.
