TROY — Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute heads into the
stretch of the hockey season poised to host an ECAC Hockey
preliminary-round series for the first time in the Seth Appert
era.
The Engineers finished 10th (by tie-breaker) last season, ninth
(having tied for eighth) two seasons ago and only the 9-12th-place
finishers begin the ECACH’s open playoffs on the road.
A recent four-game unbeaten string (3-0-1) had improved the
Engineers to 4-5-1 and into seventh place in the league, then a
loss to 5th-ranked Cornell; dropped them to eighth.
