Juneau Appointed as Assistant Chefs de Mission for Canada
VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Former Rensselaer student-athlete Joe Juneau
'91 has been named Assistant Chef de Mission for the Canadian
Olympic Team at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, the
Canadian Olympic Committee announced. Juneau, along with Steve
Podborski, will join Canada's Chef de Mission Nathalie Lambert in
supporting the country's athletes and coaches in their quest to own
the podium in February 2010.
In 124 games at RPI Juneau tallied 69 goals and 144 assists for
213 points. The team’s leading point producer in each of his
four seasons, he is currently second in school history in career
assists and fifth in points and third (52 in 1989-90) and eighth
(40 in 1990-91) in single season assists. A native of Pont-Rouge,
Que., Juneau was a two-time National All-American and twice named a
finalist for the prestigious Hobey Baker Award.
The school’s Male Freshman Athlete of the Year in 1988 and
the Male Career Athlete of the Year in 1990, he was drafted by the
Boston Bruins in the fourth round of the National Hockey League
Entry Draft and went on to have a stellar NHL career, scoring 572
points (156 goals, 416 assists) in 828 games for six teams. He also
represented Canada in several national events, including the 1992
Winter Olympics when it won a silver medal.
