TROY — Freshman Patrick Cullen was looking forward to
RPI's trip to Colorado to play in the Denver Cup, but he never made
it onto the ice and the Engineers came home with a pair of losses.
Cullen came back to Troy nearly 20 pounds lighter.
He was back skating the following weekend, one that could turn out
to be the turning point in RPI's previously forgettable season. The
highly touted winger from Washington, D.C. assisted on three goals
in RPI's stunning 5-1 upset of Princeton.
"I was excited to get back on the ice and get after it," said
Cullen, who apparently had a strain of strep throat that was
treated with the wrong antibiotics when he was out West. "Friday's
game was a little rough for me trying to get back into the groove
of things in terms of speed and stuff like that. I was determined
Saturday; it was obviously a big game for us. I think we were all a
little mad about the comeback the night before (RPI squandered a
2-0 lead and was tied by Quinnipiac).
