TROY — Virtually overlooked in the wake of
back-to-back 20-loss seasons, forward Chase Polacek is off to an
outstanding start to his hockey career at RPI.
After finishing second in team scoring last season by a point to
fellow freshman Tyler Helfrich with 28 points (7-21), the Minnesota
native has already scored 26 (8-18) this season in 28 games to lead
the Engineers. He had the only goal to prevent consecutive shutouts
at the hands of archrival Union last weekend.
"I think we probably count on him as much or more than any
sophomore in the league, if not the country," said RPI coach Seth
Appert. "He kills penalties, he plays on the first power play, he
centers our top offensive line and is really relied upon in every
situation. When he's playing his best, he's a really effective
5-on-5 and special-teams player."
