RALEIGH, N.C. - Following Tampa Bay's lone preseason game at home,
Adam Oates entered the Lightning locker room and almost immediately
made a bee line for the left side of the room. Unfortunately, Oates
walked directly across the team logo in the middle of the carpet, a
locker room faux pas.
Judging from the early impact one of the game's greatest offensive
talents has had in his short coaching career, there won't be many
such slip-ups.
Oates entered training camp on a trial basis, helping out good
friend Rick Tocchet in an advisory role. But Oates, who ranks sixth
all-time with 1,079 assists, had such a positive impact that he
joined the coaching staff as a full-time assistant while earning
rave reviews from players, particularly for his work on the power
play.
