Special Festivities on Tap at RPI
TROY, N.Y. – As part of the festivities of the 7th Annual
Black Friday, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI)
men’s hockey team will wear special black jerseys for this
Friday night’s ECAC Hockey opener against Yale
University.
All fans are encouraged to wear black clothing from head-to-toe on
this particular night. Rensselaer students who have black on any
item of clothing receive one free ticket with their RPI ID. Once
again this year the RPI Bookstore is offering 20% discounts on
black clothing.
The Engineers will also be wearing black that night with their
one-time, one-use-only black jerseys. During the first and second
periods, all fans will have an opportunity to take part in an
auction and/or a raffle to obtain the jerseys, which will be worn
for Friday’s game only. The design of this year’s
jerseys has yet to be revealed.
Black Friday is a yearly event to mark the Engineers’ first
home game of the league schedule. In addition to the special jersey
auction, Black Friday t-shirts will be thrown into the crowd prior
to and during the game and other special events will take place
throughout the night. Friday’s game against the 6th-ranked
Bulldogs begins at 7pm.
Saturday’s game, which pits RPI vs. Brown, features a
ceremony that will add Bob Brinkworth ’64 into the Hockey
Ring of Honor. A multiple All-America who compiled 110 goals and
106 assists for 216 points in 71 career games, he will be
recognized between the second and third periods. Brinkworth is to
become the fifth member of the prestigious Ring of Honor, joining
Adam Oates ’85, Joe Juneau ’91, Ned Harkness and Frank
Chiarelli ’55.
The 4th Annual Greek Night is also part of the festivities of
Saturday’s game. A BBQ, trivia, on-ice activities and free
open skate after the game are some of the activities planned.
Special ticket pricing for individuals wearing their letters to the
game will also be offered.
