Stingrays Re-Sign Romfo

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach Jared Bednar announced today that former Rensselaer defenseman Scott Romfo has re-signed for the upcoming 2008-09 season. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Romfo, 27, recorded 23 points, 71 penalty minutes and a +10 plus/minus rating during the 2007-08 campaign, leading all Stingrays defensemen with seven goals while finishing second among blueliners in scoring. The fourth-year pro also was the only player to appear in all 72 regular season games for South Carolina, and saw action in each of the team's 20 postseason contests.

"With the injuries and recalls we experienced on our blueline last season, Scott was a steady presence," Bednar said. "He plays a smart game and can contribute on offense. I'm
looking forward to his contributions on defense and in the locker room again this season."

A native of Blaine, Minnesota, Romfo has registered 56 points (13g, 43a) in 154 career ECHL contests; all with South Carolina.

"I'm excited," Romfo said. "Coach Bednar, I thought he did an unbelievable job last year for a first-year coach and I'm excited to play again for him. I love it here and think it's the best place to play in the league."

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound defenseman originally joined the Stingrays in March 2006, following the completion of his senior year at RPI where he collected 35 points (8g, 27a) in 123 career contests for the Engineers.
