MacDonald Returning to Reading
PROVIDENCE, RI -- The Providence Bruins of the American Hockey
League announced that they have released former Rensselaer forward
Kirk MacDonald from his Professional Tryout Agreement, originally
signed October 8. With the move, MacDonald will return to the
Reading Royals of the ECHL. MacDonald, who was signed to an ECHL
contract with Reading in the off-season, has been with Providence
since training camp and played in the Bruins' 3-2 loss to the
Worcester Sharks October 18.
MacDonald, 24, appeared in one game for the P-Bruins, going
scoreless last Saturday night in a 3-2 overtime loss on the road
against Worcester. The third-year pro split the 2007-08 season
between the AHL and ECHL with the Albany River Rats and Florida
Everblades, respectively. MacDonald registered two points (g, a) in
11 contests with Albany in addition to 34 points (14g, 20a) in 43
contests for Florida. In his professional career, the undrafted
product from Victoria, British Columbia, has 39 points (16g, 23a)
in 67 games, along with three goals in 11 playoff contests.
Prior to turning pro, MacDonald played four seasons for the
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers. While in New York, the
two-year R.P.I. captain recorded 103 points (47g, 56a) in 137
games.
