Alford Joins Morissette, Appert in Skills Challenge

TROY, N.Y. -- Rensselaer goaltender Jordan Alford represented the East team in the third annual NCAA Frozen Four Skills Competition Friday at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Alford joined forward Jake Morissette and head coach Seth Appert.

Alford, who hails from Red Deer, Alb., played 16 games this year, posting a 5-9-1 record with a 3.09 goals against average and a .900 save percentage. He had three shutouts. In 51 career games, Alford was 16-23-4, including four shutouts, with a 3.19 average and an .890 save percentage.

Morissette and Alford are the second and third Rensselaer players selected to the Skills Competition in the brief three-year history of the event. Last season, forward Kirk MacDonald was chosen but was unable to compete because he signed a contract to play professional hockey.

Tonight's competitions include puck control relay, fastest skater, hardest shot, rapid fire shooting, accuracy shooting and penalty shot.

The Frozen Four Skills Challenge begins at 9pm Eastern time and will be preceded by the Hobey Baker Memorial Award at 7:30pm and the Hockey Humanitarian Award at 8:05pm. The Frozen Four Skills Challenge and the Hobey Baker Award will be shown live on ESPNU.
