Basiuk in Sheffield "To Win"
New Sheffield Steelers signee Scott Basiuk, who played at
Rensselaer, has a message for the Sheffield fans "I'm here to
win." The Steelers compete in the Elite Ice Hockey League
(EIHL).
"All any player wants to do is to win and I have missed that
winning feeling over the past couple of years but the thought of
coming to Sheffield made me all excited, I know with the Steelers
we will have a chance to win every night and most importantly a
chance to win the league title.
"I was at Steve Munn's wedding this last weekend and already the
Steelers players are focussed on winning that title, coming into an
environment like that where guys are just focussed and have that
winning mindset will be great.
"I enjoyed my time in Manchester, we had decent teams but I was
looking for a new challenge and after speaking with Steve Munn the
coach Dave Matsos called me. Right away I was excited, Sheffield
are a huge club with great support, winning is expected there and I
like that. Steve Munn did nothing but say great things about the
club, the coach and his team mates. From that moment I just wanted
to sign, I had to wait though as Matty wanted to see how many of
last years team would come back, then after that he was good to his
word and made me an offer.
"I look at the team we have signed and I don't see any weakness at
all. We will have a big strong defence, I don't see a better one
out there right now, plus we have great goaltending behind us. I
know from playing against Sheffield that their forwards are hard to
play against. Guys like Finnerty get under your skin and Legue can
just hurt you with his speed. Talbot scored for fun last year and,
he hurt us a lot in Manchester, I will be pleased just to be on his
team.
"I have fond memories of Manchester and the people there, good
times, but I have no regrets in starting this new challenge and
playing and winning with the Steelers."
