Academic All-America First Team Features Lord
TROY, N.Y. -- Rensselaer senior forward Andrew Lord has
been selected to the 2008 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine
Academic All-America Men's At-Large First Team, the College
Sports Information Directors of America announced Tuesday.
Lord is one of 15 student-athletes and only one of two hockey
players named to the first team in the university division. Jeff
Lerg of Michigan State is the only other hockey player named first
team.

A native of West Vancouver, B.C., Lord carried a 3.99 cumulative
grade point average as a management major. A member of Epsilon
Delta Sigma Management Honor Society and the Beta Gamma Sigma
International Honor Society - Recognizing Business Excellence, he
was the team's Scholar-Athlete Award recipient three times. The
winner of the Barbara Landgraf Award, Lord was a multiple Dean's
List honoree and a three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team
selection. A finalist for the ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the
Year Award, he volunteered for a number of organizations, including
HERO - which helps inter-city children get into hockey - and Relay
for Life.
On the ice this season, Lord was an assistant captain who scored
six goals with 10 assists. He helped the program to its second
straight Governor's Cup title and a spot in the national rankings
for eight straight weeks.
The Academic All-America At-Large Teams consist of participants in
fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing,
swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. In order to
be nominated, one must be a starter or an important reserve and
have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. He must have
reached sophomore standing and must have participated in at least
50 percent of the team's contests.
