TROY -- His team the most offensively challenged of the 12 members of the ECAC Hockey League this season, coach Seth Appert realizes that the 10th-seeded Engineers will need to keep seventh-seeded Yale out of the scoring column as much as possible to have any chance in this weekend's first-round playoff series in New Haven, Conn.
To that end, Appert has finally settled on a top goaltender after juggling senior Jordan Alford and Mathias Lange for most of this disappointing 11-21-4 season. Lange will man the big stick tonight against the Bulldogs.
"He's had three really strong games in a row," Appert said of the junior from Austria, who brings a creditable 2.52 goals-against average and .913 save percentage into the game. "I think he's had about 90 shots and five goals his last three games. The nice thing for Mathias and our team is that he's been through two playoff series in the past. He has that experience and understanding of what playoff hockey needs to be."
