TROY -- By most athletic standards, Frank Chiarelli was light-years ahead of his time during his four All-America seasons for Ned Harkness' great RPI hockey teams of the 1950s. Three of the NCAA records he set more than half a century ago still stand.
Chiarelli, whose RPI career spanned 1951-55, scored 155 goals and added 110 assists for 265 points in only 80 collegiate games.
Nationally, he still holds the Division I record for goals per game in a career (1.94) as well as goals per game in a single season (3.06) and points per game in a season (3.06), both his freshman year with a school-record 55 goals.
