Wheeling Claims Marsters
Former Rensselaer goaltender Nathan Marsters, who spent the last three seasons with the Augusta Lynx, is donning the uniform of the Wheeling Nailers.
Early Wednesday morning, Augusta Lynx head coach Bob Ferguson announced that the Lynx waived Marsters, who was the odd man out in a three-person log-jam in goal. Hours later, the Wheeling Nailers claimed Marsters.
A native of Grimsby, Ontario, Marsters spent a part of the last three seasons with Augusta; however, he had spent the last three weeks on the healthy IR list because of the two goaltenders that the Lynx were assigned by the Anaheim Ducks. Marsters last appeared in a game November 23, a 6-5 shootout loss in Mississippi against the SeaWolves. The next day goaltender Bobby Gopefert was assigned by Anaheim to the Lynx and joined Marsters and JP Levasseur on the roster. Levasseur and Goepfert had played in every game since that time.
Marsters appeared in 11 games and posted a 3.90 goals-against average and a save percentage of 88.3 this season. Although Marsters has had better numbers in a Lynx uniform, he played during the beginning of the season when the Lynx were stretched thin defensively and at one point, played eight straight road games. Marsters best performance of the season may have come back on October 27 in Gwinnett as he single-handedly kept the Lynx in the game they would ultimately lose 2-1 to the Gladiators, as Marsters stopped 38 of 40 shots.
