ECAC Hockey Weekend
Quinnipiac men's ice hockey will host Harvard and
Dartmouth this weekend, with the Crimson coming to town on Friday,
Feb. 3 in a game televised on New England Sports Network (NESN) and
SportsNet New York (SNY). Saturday night will feature the Bobcats
and the Big Green. Both games are slated for a 7 p.m. face-off at
High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center. Friday
night's game against Harvard will be the 100th men's ice hockey
game played at the TD Bank Sports Center.
Tune In
Friday's night game against Harvard can been seen live on
New England Sports Center (NESN) and SportsNet New York (SNY) at 7
p.m. The on-air talent for Friday's game will feature Bill
Schweizer with the play-by-play, Rich Coppola with the color
commentary and Bill Mecca with the sideline report. The pregame
show is set for 6:30 p.m.

Last Time Out For The Bobcats
Quinnipiac is coming off a 20-day hiatus since their last
match-up against No. 12 Colgate, a 7-1 win against the Raiders at
High Point Solutions Arena. Quinnipiac benefitted from goals from
seven different players, highlighted by a four-assist night
from Connor
Jones, a goal and two assists from Kellen
Jones and a goal and an assist from Zack
Currie.
All-Time Against Harvard
Quinnipiac is 6-7-3 all-time against Harvard, which
features a three-game unbeaten streak and wins in four of its last
five games against the Crimson. The Bobcats are also undefeated
(4-0-2) against Harvard. The two teams squared off earlier this
season, ending in a 2-2 tie, with QU's goals coming from Jeremy
Langlois and Cory
Hibbeler. Langlois has three goals and assist all-time against
Harvard.
Scouting The Crimson
Harvard is currently 6-6-9 on the season and 5-4-7 in
ECAC Hockey, good for third place in the league standings. The
Crimson are coming off a 2-2 tie against Dartmouth on Tuesday, Jan.
31. Alex Killorn leads Harvard in goals (14) and points (26) after
adding 12 assists. Danny Biega is the Crimsons' assist-leader with
19 for the year, while he has also found the back of the net five
times for 24 points on the season. Steve Michalek has logged a
majority of the minutes in goal for Harvard, posting a 6-5-8 record
with a 2.92 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage.
All-Time Against Dartmouth
Quinnipiac is 9-7-1 all-time against Dartmouth, with
seven wins in nine games on the Bobcats' home ice, including a
6-2-0 mark at the TD Bank Sports Center. The Bobcats have won three
of its last four at home against Dartmouth, including taking two of
three from the Big Green in the 2010 ECAC Hockey Tournament First
Round. Quinnipiac and Dartmouth met earlier this year, with
Dartmouth winning on its home ice, 5-4.
Scouting The Big Green
Dartmouth is currently 9-9-3 overall and 6-6-2 in the
ECAC Hockey standings. The Big Green also hold a record of 3-4-1 on
the road. Dartmouth is coming off a 2-2 tie against Harvard on
Tuesday, Jan. 31, and have won twice in its last eight games.
Doug Jones leads Dartmouth offensive, tallying seven goals and 10
assists for 17 points. Eric Robinson and Tyler Sikura have both
scored a team-high nine goals while Matt Lindblad has totaled a
team-leading 12 assists. In goal, James Mello has posted a 5-6-1
record with a 3.23 goals-against average and a .890 save
percentage.
Quinnipiac's January Athlete of the Month
Junior Zack Currie was named Quinnipiac's January Athlete
of the Month. The third-year Bobcat currently leads all Quinnipiac
defenseman in points (7 goals, 7 assists, 14 points) thanks in
large part to a strong January in which the junior scored two goals
and assisted on four more. Currie was the only Bobcat in
Quinnipiac's line-up to produce two multiple-point games in QU's
four games for the month. He assisted on both goals in a 2-1 upset
of ECAC Hockey rival and nationally-ranked No. 20 Yale, before
scoring once and assisting on another goal in a 7-1 route of No. 12
Colgate. Currie added assists against Brown and Cornell, making him
one of two players on Quinnipiac's roster to tally a point in all
four games this month.
Where He Ranks
Among all NCAA Division I players for the month of
January, Currie ranks 12th in points per game (1.50), 50th in goals
per game (0.50), 18th in assists per game (1.00), 23rd with two
power play goals, and second among points by a defenseman.
Number 10 In Your Program...
Connor Jones (#10) currently leads Quinnipiac in assists
(21) and points (26) in 23 games played. For the month of January,
Jones led all Bobcat skaters with seven points, all coming on
assists, with a career-best four assist outing against Colgate in a
7-1 romp. Nationally, Jones' 1.75 assists per game for the month of
January ranked first among all NCAA Division I men's ice hockey
players, while his 1.75 points per game ranked third.
Among The National Leaders
Eric
Hartzell is one of six NCAA Division I goalies in the
nation to post of goals-against average of 2.00 or lower.
Pretty Good Stretch
Coming off a 7-1 win agianst Colgate, Eric Hartzell has
now held the Bobcats' opponent to two or fewer goals in 12 of his
last 14 starts. For the year, he boasts a 4-3-4 record against ECAC
Hockey schools with a .932 save percentage and a 1.68 goals-against
average.
Mr. Hockey At The Bank
Quinnipiac improved to 3-0 all-time when NHL Hall of
Famer Gordie "Mr. Hockey" Howe is attendance, as was the case on
Jan. 14 when arguably the game's greatest took in Quinnipiac's 7-1
win against Colgate.
Power Outage
Loren
Barron's goal against Yale on Friday, Jan. 6, was just
the fifth power play goal allowed by the nationally-ranked Bulldogs
this year.
Next Up For Quinnipiac
Following this weekend's games against Harvard and
Dartmouth, the Bobcats will head to the North Country to face St.
Lawrence on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. and Clarksonon Feb. 11 at 7
p.m.
