Team Notes: Quinnipiac Resumes Second Half Play at Nebraska Omaha
New Year's Wrap-Up
The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team will travel to
Omaha, Neb. to play University of Nebraska Omaha in a two-game
series on Dec. 30-31 at CenturyLink Center Omaha. Friday's game is
set for a 8:37 p.m. start while Saturday's game will be played at
3:07 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

The Last Time The Bobcats Were On The Ice
Quinnipiac has not skated since a 3-2 ECAC Hockey win
against Princeton on Sunday, Dec. 11 at High Point Solutions Arena
at the TD Bank Sports Center. Zack Currie had the first multiple-goal game
of his career while Kevin Bui also netted her first career goal
in the Bobcats' win.
All-Time Against Nebraska Omaha
Quinnipiac and Nebraska Omaha played the only two games
of their all-time series last season at High Point Solutions Arena
at the TD Bank Sports Center. Quinnipiac swept the series, 4-3 and
3-2, behind a strong weekend from Loren Barron who had scored and also
assisted on Quinnipiac's other three goals in the first game before
picking up two more assists in the second game of the series.
Barron earned ECAC Hockey Player of the Week honors for the effort.
Scott Zurevinski scored twice in the first
game while Russell Goodman had two goals against UNO in
the second game.
Scouting The Mavericks
Nebraska Omaha is currently 9-8-3 overall and 7-4-3 in
the WCHA. The Mavs haven't skated since Dec. 9-10 when it split a
two-game set against North Dakota, in Grand Forks, with a win in
the first game, 2-1, before losing the second game, 1-0. UNO has
lost just three times in its last 10 games, posting a 4-3-3
record. The Mavs are led by a pair of 20-point scorers in Matt
White (9-16-25) and Terry Broadhurst (14-9-23), who also ranks
among the nation's leaders in goals scored. Freshman Josh Archibald
(7-4-11) was a recent addition to the USA Junior Team. In goal,
senior John Faulkner and freshman Ryan Massa has split time between
the pipes, while Dayn Belfour has also seen playing time. Faulkner
is 5-4-0 with a .873 save percentage and a 3.03 goals-against
average while Massa checks in at 3-3-1 with a .900 save percentage
and a 2.68 GAA. Belfour is 1-1-2 with a .899 save percentage and a
2.30 GAA. UNO Head Coach Dean Blais, who ranks 13th among active
Division I coaches with 313 wins, is currently coaching the USA
Junior team at the 2012 IIHF World Championships.
Next Up For The Bobcats…Back To ECAC
Action
Quinnipiac's two-game set at UNO is its final
non-conference match-up of the season as the Bobcats prepare for
their final 12 regular-season games, all against ECAC Hockey teams.
The Bobcats will face Yale and Brown next weekend on the road
before hosting Cornell and Colgate on Jan. 13-14.
In The Polls
Neither Quinnipiac nor Nebraska Omaha sit in either of
the major polls, but both are very close in the "Others Receiving
Votes" category. Quinnipiac is the first team out, and the "21st"
team with 45 votes in the USCHO.com Division Poll and are also
receiving two votes for the 20th spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey
Magazine Poll. UNO is receiving votes in both polls as well.
PairWise Rankings
Quinnipiac is currently tied for 21st, with North Dakota,
in the PairWise Rankings - the poll which mimics the selection
criteria for the NCAA Division I Tournament selection. The Bobcats
are the fourth highest ECAC Hockey team - trailing Colgate (T13),
Cornell (16) and Union (T18). Sitting atop the PairWise Rankings is
Ohio State, whom the Bobcats defeated on Oct. 8, 4-3. Nebraska
Omaha currently sits in 26th place in the rankings.
First Half Notes
Quinnipiac headed into the annual Holiday Break in third
place in the ECAC Hockey standings with nine points (3-4-3) with an
overall record of 11-6-3 after posting a five-game unbeaten streak
(4-0-1).
Streaking
Quinnipiac's five-game unbeaten streak is the third
longest active streak in NCAA Division I ice hockey.
Protect This House
In 11 games this season at High Point Solutions Arena at
the TD Bank Sports Center, Quinnipiac is 8-1-2 (.818).
Non-Conference Dominance
Quinnipiac is also 8-2-0 against all non-ECAC Hockey
opponents this season.
Generating Offense
Quinnipiac currently ranks 13th nationally in scoring
offense with 66 goals in 20 games for a 3.30 per game average,
which ranks second in ECAC Hockey.
Stingy Defense
The Bobcats rank 9th nationally after allowing 2.15 goals
per game through its first 20 games.
Marginally Better
Quinnipiac's 1.15 scoring margin (66-to-43 goals) rank
seventh in NCAA Division I hockey.
The Killers
Quinnipiac has successfully killed 76 of 85 penalties
through its first 20 games for 89.4%, good for 5th in NCAA Division
I hockey. The Bobcats also have three short-handed goals to their
credit.
First Half All-ECAC Hockey
Jeremy Langlois was highlighted by Joe
Gladziszewski as one of six players selected to
InsideCollegeHockey.com's "INCH's First Half All-ECAC Hockey Team".
Langlois currently leads Quinnipiac in goals (12) and points (19)
in 19 games played.
