Henningson Joins Express
HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, announced today that they have acquired former Quinnipiac defenseman Dan Henningson from the Wheeling Nailers. The transaction completes a future considerations trade that saw Matt Lombardi head to Wheeling.
Henningson, 27, comes to the Windy City after spending the last two seasons with the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL). In 2010-11, Henningson played 68 games in a Nailers uniform, scoring five goals and adding 13 assists for 18 points and 41 PIM. Henningson was named the Captain of the squad late in the season as well, and led all Nailers defensemen in plus/minus when he finished with a +19 rating. The 6-1, 190 pound defenseman also played in 17 playoff games where he had three points (1g, 2a) and 10 PIM. His totals from Wheeling include 101 games played, 29 points (8g, 21a), and 57 PIM. Henningson skated in 10 American Hockey League (AHL) games after completing his college years in 2008-09, where he picked up an assist and 4 PIM.
The Edmonton, Alberta, native played four seasons for Quinnipiac from 2005-2009 before embarking on his professional career, dressing for a total of 150 games. In those games, he recorded 12 goals and 55 assists for 67 points. His best season occurred in 2007-08 when he had 24 points (3g, 21a).
"Dan led a good Wheeling team in plus/minus by a defenseman," said Head Coach Steve Martinson. "He had good offensive numbers in college, and will bring experience to our defense."
