Henningson to Wear 'C' for Wheeling
WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers are pleased to announce that former Quinnipiac defenseman Dan Henningson has been named the team's Captain for the remainder of the 2010-2011 season.
Henningson has been an anchor on the Nailers defensive unit the past two seasons. In 56 games played this year, the Edmonton, Alberta native has registered 14 points (5g, 9a). The 6-1, 190-lb defenseman has helped lead the Nailers to the second best penalty kill ranking in the ECHL. Henningson posted 11 points in 33 games with Wheeling last season. He also logged an assist in ten appearances with the Lake Erie Monsters (AHL) in 2008-09. Prior to his professional career, Henningson was a four-year player at Quinnipiac.
"Dan is one of the better leaders I have seen," said Nailers head coach Stan Drulia. "He plays the game the right way every night and does it for the right reasons, and it has been a privilege to coach him. I can't think of a better person to lead us to the playoffs and hopefully a very long run into them. This time of year is for warriors, and there is no one who competes as hard as he does every single shift."
Hennigson's appointment as captain comes a few days after previous captain Andrew Lord, a former Rensselaer standout, signed an American Hockey League contract with the Oklahoma City Barons. Kris Vernarsky and Andrew Orpik will remain as the team's alternate captains.
