Former Cowichan Valley Capitals captain Zack Currie played in the longest game in NCAA hockey history earlier this month, a 150-hour and 22-minute marathon that saw his Quinnipiac Bobcats edge the Union College Dutchmen 3-2 in quintuple-overtime. He shared his thoughts on the game in an email to the Citizen, typing with one hand after breaking his hand during another playoff game.
"Playing in a game like that was an experience I'll never forget," Currie wrote. "It was exhausting and mentally tough but very fun at the same time. It was very interesting knowing we were playing in a game that just broke the record and at the same time just hoping we could end it."
The Dutchmen, who ended up winning the playoff series two games to one, featured fellow former Cap Luke Cain, who played one season in the Cowichan Valley with Currie.
