HAMDEN — It took a good deal of time, effort and a little
bit of salesmanship for Quinnipiac coach Rand Pecknold to finally
entice an opponent from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association
to come to Hamden.
When St. Cloud (Minn.) State takes the ice for a two-game series
(tonight-Saturday, 7 p.m.) at the TD Bank Sports Center, it will
mark the first time a school located west of Pennsylvania has
played at Quinnipiac’s three-year old arena.
St. Cloud State (12-7-3) is a perennial NCAA tournament team with
five appearances in the last 10 years, and appears primed to make
another run this season. The Huskies are ranked 14th in the USCHO
national poll and third in the powerful WCHA behind Denver and
Minnesota-Duluth.
