Bobcats Continue Positive Play initiative
NORTH HAVEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey
team visited Green Acres Elementary School in North Haven, Conn. on
Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010. The Bobcats read a variety of children's
books to the school's kindergarten students.
The entire roster was on-hand at the North Haven elementary
school, in addition to head coach Rand Pecknold and assistant coach
Bill Riga. The Bobcats sat with over 50 students in the school's
cafeteria, reading and coloring with the young children.
"Visiting a school and interacting with children is great," Riga
said. "Our student-athletes are role models to these kids and I'm
sure it means a lot to have our guys here. For me, it's great to be
involved in the community."
In the last week, the men's and women's ice hockey teams have been
busy traveling to various elementary schools in the area as part of
Quinnipiac Athletics' Positive Play initiative. The Positive Play
program encourages community involvement by Quinnipiac's
student-athletes. The men's and women's teams visited Ridge Road
School in North Haven on Jan. 7 before the women traveled to Nathan
Hale School in New Haven, Conn. The men's team visited Fairfield
Country Day School on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
