Wong Candidate for 2010 NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge
HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University senior Brandon Wong (Victoria, B.C.) has been announced as a preliminary selection for the 2010 NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge. Currently, 78 student-athletes from NCAA Division I men's and women's ice hockey have been announced with a goal of 32 student-athletes to be announced later this month. Bobcats fans have an opportunity to help their favorite Quinnipiac ice hockey student-athletes be selected to participate in the prestigious NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge by voting online from Feb. 1 through Feb. 15.
Wong currently stands as the Bobcats goal-leader with 14. He
also assisted on 14 more for a team-high 28 points. The team-leader
with 10 power-play goals, Wong also has four game-winners to his
credit this season. Announced as a Hobey Baker Award candidate
earlier this season, Wong was the ECAC Hockey Co-Rookie of the
Year, while also earning Third Team honors. He was also the
recipient of the George Carens Award given by the New England
Hockey Writers as the top freshman in the region. That year, he
scored a career-high 27 goals, while assisting on 17 more for 44
points in his first season of college hockey. He was named a Inside
College Hockey Freshman All-American and a USCHO.com All-Rookie
selection before finishing as the runner-up for the National Rookie
of the Year Award. Last season, Wong became the fourth
Quinnipiac junior in program history to reach the 100-point mark in
three seasons. He is also the third highest active scorer in NCAA
Division I hockey with 130 points on 63 goals and 67 assists. His
63 career goals rank fourth while his 67 assists rank
13th in Quinnipiac's Division I history. His 130 points
are good for 9th place in the Bobcats' Division I
history.
