HAMDEN — Sixteen years ago when Rand Pecknold was hired as
the part-time head coach of Quinnipiac University’s Division
II I hockey program, the team practiced at midnight and barely had
enough money to buy hockey sticks.
Those days are now a distant memory as dramatic improvements have
been made in all facetts of the hockey program.
The Bobcats not only play their games in the state-of-the-art $52
million TD Bank Sports Center, but they are emerging as a Division
I power. They have been ranked in the Top 10 in four different
national Division I hockey polls the past month (and remain there
now), reaching a school-record No. 4 in the country two weeks ago.
