Beaudoin Named 2009-10 Quinnipiac Captain
HAMDEN, Conn. -- At the 2008-09 Quinnipiac Men’s Ice
Hockey Senior Awards Banquet, senior captain Dan Henningson
(Edmonton, Alberta) was named the team’s 2008-09 Most
Valuable Player. Junior assistant captain Jean-Marc Beaudoin (St.
Paul, Alberta) was also announced as the 2009-10 captain in
addition to winning the team’s 7th Player Award, the Coaches
Award and the inaugural Academic Award. Freshman Scott Zurevinski
(Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) took home the team’s Rookie of the
Year Award.
Henningson took home the Bobcats’ top honor for the second
consecutive year after a season in which Quinnipiac once again
ranked as one of the top teams in the nation on the power play and
goals-against per game. Henningson finished his career ranked sixth
in defenseman points (67) and fourth in defenseman assists (55). He
scored a career-high six goals in 2008-09, doubling his career
total. In addition, he is one of five players in Quinnipiac history
to play in 150 games. Last month, Henningson signed with the
American Hockey League’s (AHL) Lake Erie Monsters, the top
affiliate of the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Colorado
Avalanche.
“Dan Henningson emerged as a leader in 2007-08”, Head
Coach Rand Pecknold said.”In addition, he was also our best
player. He carried that over to the 2008-09 season and did a
phenomenal job as our captain. There was no question that he was
our best player.”
Beaudoin was honored with three awards for the night while also
earning the “C” on his sweater for next season.
Beaudoin was named an assistant captain as a sophomore and once
again held the spot in 2008-09. The Seventh Player award is given
to an individual who has shown the most growth as a member of the
men’s ice hockey team in his time at Quinnipiac, while the
Coaches Award is given to the student-athlete who exemplifies
everything that Quinnipiac men’s hockey embodies. Beaudoin
also carried the highest grade-point average among all sophomores,
juniors and seniors on the Bobcats’ roster to earn the
first-ever Academic Award. Beaudoin set personal-best marks in
goals (13), assists (14) and points (27).
“Jean-Marc Beaudoin was an unanimous choice by our players
as our team captain,” Pecknold said. “He has really
grown into an elite player over his three years, and we look
forward to his leadership next season.”
Zurevinski was honored as the program’s top first-year
player. This season, Zurevinski scored 11 goals, among the ECAC
Hockey freshman leaders, while also assisting on seven more for 18
points for the season.
“Scott Zurevinski brought a great physical presence to our
line-up every night,” Pecknold said. “He really had a
solid all-around season and we look forward to more from him in the
future.
