Team Notes: Quinnipiac Hosts No. 7 Yale
The following article appeared February 18 on the Quinnipiac Web site.
The Quinnipiac University men’s ice hockey team will host
New Haven County neighbor, Yale University, in an ECAC Hockey
match-up at the TD Banknorth Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
Quinnipiac is coming off a 5-3 win over Clarkson on Saturday, Feb.
14 and sits in a tie with Harvard for sixth place in the league
standings. The Bobcats hold an 8-8-2 ECAC Hockey mark, good for 18
points. Yale sits atop the league standings with a 14-3-1 for 29
points. The Bulldogs also ranked seventh nationally.
Heroes Hat
The Quinnipiac and Yale men’s ice hockey teams will be
facing off for the “Heroes Hat” award on Friday night.
The game was revived in 2007 following a one-year absence to honor
those who lost or risked their lives during terrorist attacks
against the United States on Sept. 11, 2001. The award was
previously given to the winner of the season series between
Quinnipiac and the University of Connecticut. The Bobcats won four
straight following its inception in 2002. In 2003, Quinnipiac
claimed the “Heroes Hat” at Madison Square Garden in
New York. The “Heroes Hat” award remembers Joseph
Mascali (FDNY/Staten Island 5), father of Quinnipiac alumni Chris
and Jenn Mascali. Following the game, members from the Mascali
family will be on hand to present the winning team with the
award.
Teddy Bear Toss
Quinnipiac will hold its second-ever Teddy Bear Toss on Friday
night at the TD Banknorth Sports Center. All fans are encouraged to
bring a stuffed animal – preferably new – to the game
and throw it onto the ice during the first intermission as a
donation through Don’s Hat Rack to benefit the Yale-New Haven
Children’s Hospital. Last year more than 700 stuffed animals
were collected during the inaugural event, which were later
distributed to children by student-athletes during a team hospital
visit.
