On Feb. 20 students and fans alike will pack into the TD
Banknorth Sports Center for Quinnipiac’s most highly
anticipated men’s ice hockey game of the season. This is not
just any game in the ECAC Hockey season. When the Bobcats look
across the ice to the visiting bench they will see a familiar foe.
A team that plays its home games a short 10 miles from Hamden,
Conn. They will be looking at the blue and white of the Yale
Bulldogs.
Quinnipiac and Yale are two teams currently on opposite sides of
the coin. The Bobcats are coming off a pair of disappointing
overtime losses to both Cornell, 2-1, and Colgate, 3-2. They have
battled key injuries in the past few weeks, including the loss of
junior wing Brandon Wong since the Robert Morris game on Jan.
23.
At the other end the Bulldogs could not be hotter right now. They
are currently riding a six-game winning streak and are 10-1-1 in
the last 12 games (both statistics as of Feb. 7). They are ranked
No. 10 in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports Division I Men’s
Poll and have two Hobey Baker Memorial Award candidates in juniors
Mark Acobello and Sean Backman. Despite the teams’ current
tendencies the records are thrown out the window when they meet on
the ice.
